A sneak peek at When Silver Moons Rise: letters from Faris and Chela

We are saying a final goodbye to our Indie Author of the Month, KaSonndra Leigh. The author is giving our readers this final sneak peek at the second book in The Lost Immortals series, When Silver Moons Rise. Enjoy!

When Silver Moons Rise (Lost Immortals #2) by KaSonndra Leigh
YA dystopian/sci-fi, expected publication December 2012

Facing an unstable future, Chela Prizeon leaves Castle Hayne and crosses over to enemy territory in pursuit of Faris--the boy of royal blood who is cursed by a bitter rival. But soon Chela learns that he has been taken deep into the treacherous frozen prisons--a majestic, but deadly place where people enter and are never seen again. To find the boy she loves and his lost sister, Chela must join forces with one of her greatest enemies. And even though she pulls strength from the good in her powers, she finds herself drawn to the dark side's temptation as well.

Narrated from both Chela's and Faris's point of view, this enchanting sequel to When Copper Suns Fall will take them on a voyage into unknown lands, where the dark, twisted, and revengeful wait to make this their most dangerous journey ever.

A letter from Faris
My name is Faris Toulan.

Yesterday I died. But today, I live again.

I found a reason to exist, even though I now face the things I want to forget: my exile, the stupid mistakes, the lost souls of the ones who died because of me.

Do I deserve to see her face again?

Am I worthy of the right to see the way her eyes light up after a swim?

The people in my land have lost a king, my father Zanas Indrail. And I am a prince who lives in darkness. You see, I’m cursed. The thing that lives inside me must die. Or eventually, I’ll lose my soul to the Angel of Darkness and the ones who serve him.

The people I love stand against me. My enemies want to break me. Part of me wants to let them do it. Who am I kidding? I can’t let that happen. I love her too much.

I’ll do anything for her. Even if it means I have to walk across the lake of fire.

So I hide in the shadows. I will patiently wait until the day…

When the Silver Moons rise again.

A Letter From Chela Prizeon
Two months ago, I celebrated my seventeenth birthday with my twin brother, Micah. The day was cheerful enough, I guess. Neither of us thought we would ever see the other one again. My brother spent almost an entire year of his life in a coma, a supernatural one. His soul was trapped inside of a land parallel to ours, a place hidden by an ancient type of magic. The ruler of this world, a girl who appears to be not much older than he and I, captured his spirit, but not his body. Through a spell, she ripped him out of our lives. And he fought it. With my sacrifice and through our special bond, we defeated the one known as Rabia.

Life should be great for me, right? But we live in a society where my kind—the humans with angel-blood—are executed on a regular basis. I look over my shoulder each day without knowing if my brother and I will be discovered. Part of me wants to tell the leaders about the things I've done. And Father, Micah, and everyone I love will be safe, because I’ll be the one to get punished.

For now, I return to a normal life as I try to keep memories of the boy with the silver eyes out of my head. Who am I kidding? He rules me, possesses my mind, my heart, each part of my very existence. To deny him is like throwing my body on a sword, killing me slowly and never softly. The apocalyptic war between the humans and the angels that happened 55 years ago was only the beginning. A new evil threatens to destroy the peace Faris’s people worked so hard to create. The time will come when the thing I recently discovered inside myself will be put to a test.

I hope that I am worthy of this power given to me by the ancient ones, the Lost Immortals.

I beg for their forgiveness, if I am not.
