Blurb: Four days before Valentine’s Day, Liese Hansfeld is determined to shut the door to her house, as well as her heart, for her annual four days of mourning her one true love. Little does she know her best friend Freytag Meier is just as determined to keep her from her ritual. He’s ready to pick the lock to her apartment door and camp in her living room if that’s what it takes.

What Freytag isn’t prepared for is the surge of deep-rooted emotions he feels for Liese, but two things stand in his way: the grief and guilt she still clutches close to her heart, and a man who threatens to snatch Liese from under Frey’s watchful eye. Frey is determined to distract her into forgetting her pain. But is that enough to ease her grief, or help her see he can be more than her best friend?

Guest Post: Memories shared strengthen best friends turn lovers relationship

Thanks for having me here on Reader Girls.

In my line of work – I am an assistant nurse – I’ve met a lot of people, each person as interesting as the other. Last week, I visited a couple at their home. The man was 93 years and his wife 89 years. I have to admit in my life, I have never seen a couple so much in love, and at that age? Doesn’t happen very often, I think.

We got to talking. I learned that the couple had been married for over 66 years. The husband fought the second world war, and was almost killed by a stray bullet. And as the woman was talking about it, she dabbed her eyes at the memory. And the man – he pulled her to him and hugged her so fiercely, murmuring how he was ok, and had pulled through the whole ordeal without damage.

Now, years later, after going through all that – loss of friends and family, and the food shortage that followed thereafter as a result of the war, they have children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

So, with a need to quickly dispel the dreary mood that the war story had brought about, I asked them about their younger years. Abruptly, they beamed, and began regaling me with stories. Soon we were laughing, and their eyes twinkled at the memories. They were best friends before they got married. It wasn’t an easy thing back then, but they managed. They were best friends for five years before they got married. They knew each other’s faults and good side like no one else did. And before I left, the woman, her arm wrapped around her husband’s waist told me – and I am going to translate from German to English. It might sound funny, but utterly romantic: He is the lid and I am the cooking pot. One cannot function without the other. I smiled all the way to the bus station, and even when I got home, I still had this warm fuzzy feeling after basking in such display of love.

Probably you are wondering how this story relates to mine. Or maybe you have guessed.

Friends to lovers play a big part in my contemporary novella Truly madly, Deeply, You, Liese and Frey are like this couple. They’ve gone through a lot, they tease and banter with each other, and know when to back off. Such a relationship, when properly handled, does work in the end.

About the author: Cecilia Robert enjoys the play and weave of words that make up a good story. She enjoys creating fantastical worlds and getting lost in them. She often meets a prince, a princess, a pirate, ordinary and badass boy or girl who take her through the wonderful world of dreaming and fantasy.

She doesn't have particular leanings to any kind of story as long as it captures her attention. She reads and enjoys urban/dark fantasy romance, paranormal, contemporary, sci-fi, mystery or horror as much as her children's school books.

Some nights, you can find her reading Puss in Boots for her daughter, or trying to understand how to read Manga comics from her son.

This tour is hosted by Sizzling Book Tours.
