Goddess Fish Promotions: Any Given Christmas tour

Book blurb: Dean Silverthorne’s mother may be dead, but she still has matchmaking to do.

When an injury dashes NFL Quarterback Dean Silverthorne’s Super Bowl dreams, he heads back to Deer Lick, Montana with a chip on his wounded shoulder and more determined than ever to get back in the game. He loves his kooky family, but his trip home is nothing but a very brief Christmas visit.

His game plan didn’t include an instant attraction to Emma Hart, a feisty kindergarten teacher who seems to be the only person in Deer Lick not interested in the hometown hero. Or his dearly departed mom popping up with mistletoe in hand and meddling on the mind. Now Dean can’t help but wonder if there’s more to love than life between the goal posts

Readergirls asked Candis Terry this question to write about for her guest post: Ghost matchmaking mom, football player son, we'd love to know the inspiration for this story!

Candis Terry's Guest Post:

Hi! I’m so excited to be here. Thank you for the opportunity to chat about ANY GIVEN CHRISTMAS my new Sugar Shack novel release from Avon Impulse.

Wow. To get behind the real inspiration of this story I probably need to pull up the psychiatrists couch! All the Sugar Shack novels were inspired by lost opportunities, new beginnings, and life-changing challenges. Along with my just really weird personal experiences with the woo-woo stuff.

My father and I were never close and I lost him when I was only eleven. My mother has Alzheimer’s and I’ve lost my chance at working out some of the rough spots in our relationship. So I always wonder how people might react and move forward when faced with devastating losses. Dean Silverthorne, the hero in my new book, has not only lost his best friend and number one fan with the death of his mother, but there’s a very real possibility that he’s also lost his high-powered, much-loved career. On top of that he’s a little misguided and he’s smitten with Emma Hart, a woman who frankly, just isn’t all that impressed with the NFL superstar/hometown hero.

And the ghost mom? Well, she died too quick for her liking. And she’s not ready to go toes up until she sees that she’s worked out all the raw edges in her relationships with her children. Or at least until she sees that they each find their happily ever after.

Sometimes its fun coming up with new holiday season miracles. Wishing everyone a very merry!

About the author: Growing up in Southern California, I was too busy reading books, hanging out at the beach, or finding ways to have a good time that wouldn’t land me on restriction to even consider writing a book. Oddly enough, a college drama teacher (who politely discouraged my inept acting abilities) encouraged me to develop the A+ character bio I’d created into a complete story. Right. Years later, in the midst of a bleary-eyed all-nighter (rocking my newborn, that is), I picked up a romance novel and fell in love with more than just the infant in my arms.

The diversities in my life have enhanced (or twisted) my worldview. From working in a Hollywood recording studio to a graphic designer in marketing; from schmoozing with the likes of Charleton Heston and Motley Crüe to giving up my beach bum ways and making the move to an Idaho farm. I’ve designed costumes for 80’s heavy metal videos and scooped up road apples left on the parade route by my daughter’s rodeo queening horse.

Only one thing has remained constant: my passion for writing stories about relationships, the push and pull in the search for love, and the security one finds in their own happily ever after. Though my stories are set in small towns, my wish is to give each of my characters a great big memorable love story rich with quirky characters, tons of fun, and a happy ending.

I’m married to a wonderful man who takes out the trash without being asked and who puts up with all my crazy ideas. To find inspiration, my family and I often grab our trailer and ATV and venture out to discover the off-road splendor of the Idaho wilderness. And when I need a fun dose of reality, I call upon my daughter and her little Mini-Me or one of our 3 furry troublemakers.

Life is good down on the farm!

  1. Hi! I'm really happy to be here today. As soon as you're done with those Black Friday sales, jump in the conversation and tell me what makes your holidays happy or if you've been lucky enough to witness your own holiday miracle. And hey, who knows, you might just win a $25 Amazon gift card!

  2. Happy Holidays Candis! Hope you enjoyed a fantabulous Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. No Black Friday shopping for gifts are all bought! Gotta wrap them now! Do have to make a CVS run though but that shouldn't bee too bad..I hope! I'm listening to the first Christmas Carol of the season...Johnny Mathis singing 'It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas'.

I've enjoyed following you around this week and getting to know you and your work.

  3. Hey Candis,
I can't wait to read this! I'm halfway through your first one now and LOVING it! (yes, I'm slow. I'd put in on the top of my TBR pile when it first came out. Shows you how little time I've had to read).

Congrats on your second book's release. You know I'm super proud of you. :)

  4. Karen! You've got your shopping all done? Wow! I'm impressed. Except for the fact that our oven died yesterday, Thanksgiving was really nice. And yes, I did have pie for breakfast today.

I'm so glad you've followed me around this week. Hope you'll pick up a copy of ANY GIVEN CHRISTMAS and give it a look. Emma, the heroine is a bit of a Christmas decorating nut like me.

  5. Becky! Hugs! Hope you guys had a nice Thanksgiving.

I hear you about having little time to read. I've got your new book HER ONE NIGHT PRINCE on my Kindle just waiting for me but I'm usually not even hitting the sheets until after midnight so reading is a complete luxury anymore.

And thank you for the congrats! I do know you're proud of me. Couldn't have gotten here without your nudges. :)

  6. Hi, Candis,
I'm happy to skip the Black Friday madness today and catch up with reading and writing. I hear you about lost opportunities triggering strong reactions and admire you for putting your losses to positive use in Any Given Sunday. I can't wait to read my copy.

  7. Hey there, this book sounds so adorable. I really want to read this book. I'm in the mood for it now, with all the holidays going on. I got absolutely no christmas shopping done today. At least there's the internet!

  8. Love it when guys have to fight for the girl! Seriously, it just shouldn't be easy ;-) Can't wait to read this book!

  9. Thanks Pat, Vivien and Chelsea! While everyone else was shopping today, I've been working on Kelly's (Delicious Dean's sister) book. Okay, I snuck over to Old Navy online but other than that, I've been working. Seriously. I did not keep going into the kitchen for more pie!

I hope you will enjoy Any Given Christmas. It was an absolute blast to write and I know these characters will live in my head for a long time. They just need to learn to close the curtains!

    All best and happy holidays!

  10. Thank you so much for having me here today. I really appreciate it.

  11. My Father has Alzheimer's. He knows I am family, but not past that. I can totally relate.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the tour thank you. I wish you every success.

  12. Thanks for the tour Candis. I have really enjoyed getting to know you and read about your book. I've got 2 new books for my TRL.

  13. The ghostly mother helping her children and tying up her lose ends seems reminiscent of Dicken's Christmas Carol especially at this time of year.

Sounds like a wonderful story. Thanks for posting!

  14. Hi! It may be too late to enter, but I wanted to congratulate Candis on her book! It's going on my ToBuy list pronto!
