BBT: Karma & Melodies by Katie Salidas tour & giveaway

June is a busy month full of many book tours and author stops. As summer vacation time approaches for many of us (as well as those who have already begun their free time), one thing we like to do during theses sunny days is read. Judging from the hot cover and an even more intriguing blurb, today's title is one we can't wait to sink our teeth into. We are happy to welcome author Katie Salidas and the Karma & Melodies tour to Reader Girls today.

Book blurb:

Kendra used to spend her days organizing events for Café Enigma while daydreaming about Marcus, the sexy lead singer of Normal Paradox. But all those dreams of becoming Mrs. Rock Star died, along with her mortality, the moment Hector entered her life and turned her into a vampire.

Ten torturous years later, Kendra finally escapes Hector and runs straight into Marcus.
(Well, actually, he hit her with his car, but that's beside the point.) The accident leaves Marcus concussed and a few pints too low, forcing Kendra to share her blood to save him.

Sharing her blood doesn’t just heal Marcus’s wounds; it bonds him to Kendra in a magical “can’t live without you” sort of way. Now he’s professing his undying love to her, and Kendra’s not sure if he’s for real or just experiencing the side effects of their new blood bond. Either way, the two of them can’t be separated without suffering suicidal levels of depression, and the band needs to hit the road for the rest of their cross-country tour.

Kendra’s content to travel with the band and explore her new-found relationship, until whispered threats from her master, Hector, start invading her dreams. He’s tracking her down, and she can feel it. She knows the horrors he’s capable of, and if he finds out about Marcus, Hector will do everything in his power to destroy him.

If she stays, Marcus is doomed to Hector’s wrath. If she goes, the repercussions of their bond might kill Marcus. Both options will break Kendra’s heart. If they’re truly meant for each other, they’ll have to find another way....

Guest Post: Fated Love by Katie Salidas

Second chances at love don't come very often, even for a vampire who has eternity.”

Kendra used to spend her days organizing events for Café Enigma while daydreaming about Marcus, the sexy lead singer of Normal Paradox. But all those dreams of becoming Mrs. Rock Star died, along with her mortality, the moment Hector entered her life. He tricked her and seduced her into becoming a vampire, stealing Kendra away from Marcus forever.

Ten torturous years later; however, Kendra finds a way to escape Hector and is reunited with her lost love, Marcus. Now that she's found him she doesn't want to let him go. But, whispered threats from Hector begin invading her dreams. He's tracking her down, and she can feel it. He's a true monster, capable of unspeakable horrors, and Kendra knows what he will do if he catches them.

She'll have to make a choice: stay and fight for the man she's always loved, or protect him by leaving and keeping Marcus off of Hector's radar?

The idea of fated love is one often explored in romance. Some characters are just meant for each other. Now, while I don’t personally believe in “love at first sight” I do understand the concept. Sometimes you do make an instant connection with someone. But, to call it “love” might be overstating things. Real love is never quick or easy. Sure, you could claim to fall in love at first sight, but that doesn’t mean you deserve it. If you want it, work for it! That’s more the underlying theme in Karma & Melodies.

Kendra and Marcus are fated to love, but that love will not flourish without hard work! If they aren’t willing to go through hell to be with one another and make hard choices, then they don’t deserve to have that love.

Call me mean or cruel, but I love to torture my characters and make them “work for it.” It’s the obstacles and roadblocks on the path to “Happily Ever After” that make the love worthwhile.

And I think many of you agree with me. If the Heroine and Hero fell madly in love and had nothing to cause conflict, then the story wouldn’t be interesting.  You’d have about 10 pages of character description and lovey dovey dialogue and that’s it!

Where’s the fun in that?

With my characters, Kendra and Marcus, I wanted to give them some fun challenges. I have Kendra, a blood thirsty vampire who must live in the shadows while on the run from her master vampire, Hector. And then there is Marcus, and up and coming singer in a popular band. His life is in the open whereas hers is not. It’s more than just the simple difference of  he’s a human, she’s a vampire. To make it even more fun, Marcus is in the middle of a cross-country tour with his band when the two are reunited.  And the band is not all vamp friendly.  With so much against them, making their relationship work will take more than just a few vows of undying love, it is going to take a whole lot more!

  1. Lavada's take on 'Fated Love'- It is all too real but the reality is that it almost always starts out one sided. Those who realize the person they love is 'the one' is doomed to be tournamented at least for a time. Sometimes it works out to a grand reunion sometimes it ends up simply unrequited. Sigh but every time it makes a grand story.

  2. Thanks for the giveaway
