Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something…

Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan...
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again. But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.

At least his instinct to protect me was still there. “I can’t afford to think like that, Torin. I want
all this,” I indicated the car with a brief wave, “to go away.”

“It will. Mortals don’t mess with what they fear. They’ll leave you alone for a while, which is
not bad.”

“Spoken like a loner.”

He grinned. “True. You should also charge more for your psychic readings for those brave
enough to ask. A thousand bucks perhaps?”

“Oh, you sneaky… You eavesdropped on me?”

“I couldn’t help it. You had them believing everything you said and...” His voice trailed off as
our eyes finally met. The moment stretched. The grin disappeared from his lips, and blue flames leapt in the depth of his sapphire eyes. We were so close I could count his eyelashes.

How could he forget moments like this when we’d looked at each other and gotten lost in our
little world? His eyes shifted to my lips, and I stopped breathing. It was as though he’d reached out and touched them. My lips tingled, then parted slightly in an invitation. All we had to do was move a few inches toward each other and we’d kiss.

He must have thought it, too, because he inched closer, his eyes burning.

A sound came from above me, and my head whipped up. Eirik. I’d completely forgotten his
presence. From his annoyed expression, he knew it, too, and didn’t like it. My cheeks warmed.

“I’ve swim practice, so see ya,” Eirik said through clenched teeth and took off.

Torin ignored Eirik and continued to study me with a conflicted expression as though he wasn’t
sure whether to grab me and kiss me or run. I wanted more time with him, but it wasn’t going to be now.

Sighing, I jumped up.

“Eirik, wait up.” He kept walking. I didn’t catch up with him until he stopped by his Jeep.

“Freckles? How close did you and Torin get before the Norns scrambled his memories?” he
practically snarled.

This wasn’t how I’d wanted him to find out about Torin and me. “We talked a bit.”

“A bit? He has a nickname for you, Raine. One you hated when we were kids. Were you seeing
him behind my back?”

Heat seared my face. “Not really. We were neighbors, Eirik, so we talked, and he gave me a ride
to school once.”

I was first introduced to an interesting young woman named Raine Cooper in Runes (my review), the first book of Ednah Walter's latest YA paranormal series. I thoroughly enjoyed and fell completely into high schooler Raine's world--her family situation with her missing dad and positive mom, best friends Cara and Eirick, her swim team, and her new neighbor, Torin St. James. What I liked so much in that book was the time it took for those two to get to know each other, from their flirty conversations to their bike rides, readers were able to fall in love with them as they fell for each other.

Things have changed in book two, Immortals, as we know from that shocking ender. The main word for this exciting installment is changes. Changes abound for Raine as she grows stronger with herself and is determined to get back her guy. Who can she trust is an important part. Eirick also undergoes some changes as we see a different side of him and Cara has her ways as well. I'm such a Torin fangirl and the author didn't disappoint her readers. There are plot twists (hmm, Andris) and more Norse mythology, adventure, romance, action--everything fans expect and always receive from Ednah Walters. Part of the aftermath from the first book is blame and interpretation. Students regard Raine as a witch and blame her for what happened. This turn of events adds a certain amount of darkness to her otherwise cheerful character. Her reaction and feelings were so realistic I couldn't help but root for her.

There is so much to like and love about the Runes series. Immortals is an exciting, thought-provoking addition and I look forward to reading the next book.

Cover comment:
I love the blues in this cover and the models are exactly as I pictured Raine and Torin. Their pose looks awkward and I wonder what's wrong with his arm.
